Dear Colleague:

It was our pleasure to host the Third International Symposium on Resistant Gram-Positive Infections. This program was held on October 9-11, 2006 at the White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. It is with equal pleasure that we are announcing the Fourth International Symposium on Resistant Gram-Positive Organisms organized by Dr. Ethan Rubinstein, Dr. Jerome Schentag and Dr. Alan Tice.

Antimicrobial resistance among Gram-positive pathogens has become one of the most challenging problems in modern medicine. In the community the issues are antibiotic resistant S. pneumoniae and Methicillin resistant S.aureus. In the hospital the major problems are methicillin resistant staphylococci, vancomycin resistant staphylococci, vancomycin resistant enterococci, and multiply resistant C.difficile. Many of these offer few effective treatments. The sense of urgency that has been felt by physicians, investigators and the pharmaceutical industry for a few years, is now also perceived by insurers, health delivery organizations and policy makers on local and global levels.

This scientific meeting will be designed to exchange new information and to update the participants on the important developments in this rapidly changing field. The most recent information and new study results was presented in the form of state-of-the-art lectures, posters and accompanying symposia. Considerable time will be dedicated to discussion of new antimicrobials with activity against resistant Gram-positive pathogens. Accompanying symposia will present the latest data on new medications for gram positive pathogens and mixed infection.

Attendees will have ample opportunity to review poster material and speak to presenting authors. Gain advice from experts in this field and participate in the discussions at all levels, both formally and informally.

We hope you will join us for the Fourth International Symposium on Resistant Gram-Positive Infections to be held in Buffalo, NY on  July 9-11, 2008.
